MANIFESTO

THE DRUM AS A PORTAL, THE MAKER AS A BRIDGE

What I do is an expression of my connection to the world—almost aboriginal, alchemical, engineering-based, and poetry. It’s a space where philosophy, physics, and chemistry have a poetic dialogue, and all of them understand each other in harmony to give birth to a new artistic expression in the form of a drum.

I deeply believe that the act of imagining something already gives it existence. I believe the materials I use carry properties far beyond what we’ve been taught culturally.

My instruments are simply a channel to reveal this truth. They prove that sound has texture, that tones have color and even flavor-like wood and metal evaporating their chemical and physical essence into waves of vibration that reach the listener and create images, feelings, and portals for other artists to express themselves.

TOGETHER, WE CREATE A SPIRAL OF KNOWLEDGE AND CREATIVE FEEDBACK

SINCE I WAS VERY YOUNG, I'VE BEEN FASCINATED BY THINGS LIKE...

  • Why does the same stream of water coming from my shower change pitch when it goes from cold to hot?

  • Why do I see the same geometries repeating over and over again in everything around me?

  • Why does the way we’ve learned to perceive the world feel so limited?

Parra Drums has been, for over 20 years, the most powerful way I’ve found to answer these questions—and to share what I discover through what I build. Each piece is unique in one way or another. Many are born from the interaction I have with the musicians who order them. Others come from a personal need to say something with my own voice.

Each artist is different, and therefore deserves tools that are either adapted to them—or that expand their limits and invite them to discover themselves in a new way.
